Tom Binns is currently in pre-production for his upcoming BBC1 series Hospital People, due for transmission in 2017. The series was commissioned after the success of his BBC1 Comedy Showcase earlier this year of the same name. Tom is format creator, co-writer and will be performing five main cast characters in this new satirical hospital based sitcom. Fan’s of Tom’s prolific live career will recognise some of their favourite characters including Ian D Montford as the psychic porter. The production is being produced by award winning company Rough Cut Television.
Tom’s live touring career regularly garners 5 star reviews and his global festival and competition attendance has earned him ‘Best International Act’ at New Zealand and a host of nominations including the Edinburgh Comedy Award, two nominations for the Adelaide Fringe Comedy Award, and a nomination for a Chortle Comedy Award. Tom was also named in their list of ‘50 Most Memorable Gigs of the Decade’ plus he is a winner of the Fosters Comedy God Award.. However nothing compares to his 2002 accolade from the readers of More Magazine voting him the 84th Sexiest Man in The World.
Tom’s most recent character is Ian D Montfort, a psychic from Sunderland who garners laughs and astonishment in parallel. Tom took the brilliantly innovative character to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2012 and subsequently starred him in a short film entitled ‘Going to Mecca’ which won the Virgin Shorts Award. Ian worked alongside Jason Byrne in Byrne’s self-titled Radio 2 show. This lead Ian to record a pilot with BBC Radio 2, which was followed by a full series entitled ‘Ian D Montfort is Unbelievable’ in February 2013.
Tom Binns is an incredibly talented comic, enjoying sell out shows around the world and as long as he isn’t sacked again from public broadcasting for high treason, we can look forward to a new household name cracking the nation up!
